Mauritanian Dr Tah wins AfDB presidency

Africa Moyo in ABIDJAN, Côte d’Ivoire

The former head of BADEA, Dr Sidi Ould Tah, has been elected president of the African Development Bank.

He beat four challengers namely Dr Samuel Munzele Maimbo of Zambia, Ms Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala of South Africa, Mr Hott Amadou of Senegal and Mr Tolli Abbas Mahamat.

He takes over from Dr Akinwumi Adesina, who led the bank to glory in the last 10 years.

 

Dr Ould Tah officially assumes the new post on September 1.

An official announcement is expected soon.

Hordes of journalists are waiting to be invited into the auditorium for the announcement.
