Mavhaire lashes out at ‘lazy civil servants’

yet they are not working hard themselves.
After visiting Mwanza dip tank in Goromonzi and failing to get adequate information on livestock production and cattle sales in the area, Cde Mavhaire said there was need for Government workers to be more committed.

He asked the veterinary staff the total number of cattle in the area, the number of cattle produced the previous year and the number of cattle sold the same period, but could not get answers from the local veterinary staff or police.
The staff could not also give straight answers on how branding was being conducted in the area and instead described challenges they were facing in discharging their duties. Extension officers complained that they were having mobility problems and were failing to properly discharge their duties.

But Cde Mavhaire said this was not a good reason for failing to deliver.
“You said you have four extension workers in a ward and how many farmers are there in a ward?” he said.
“What do you need transport for in a small area? If I tell you to leave Government and come to my farm, you will refuse because there is accountability.”

Cde Mavhaire noted that there was no proper selling of cattle in the area and that council was losing out on levies from cattle sales.
“You should get a small percentage from cattle sales, but the system is not organised and you are losing out on revenues,” he said.
“At least seven percent of the cattle in the area belong to council in terms of revenues generated from sales.”

Cde Mavhaire later planted trees at Mwanza Primary School where he accused staff of failing to plant trees.
“The school has been in existence for so many years, yet there are few trees. You should plant fruit trees which will bring revenue to the school,” he said.

Goromonzi South Member of Parliament Cde Paddy Zhanda concurred with Cde Mavhaire’s sentiments and said the problem was that there was no accountability in Government.

“There are no instruments to measure effectiveness. There is no co-ordination framework policies and measurement of production,” he said.
Cde Zhanda said there were some Government ministers who were derailing developmental issues.

“For some projects and programmes to succeed, we should make sure responsible ministers understand the concept properly,” he said.
Zanu-PF is in a drive to boost agricultural production to ensure household and national food security.

Cde Mavhaire will be touring the whole country to look at how best agricultural production can be increased and also encourage the planting of trees to ensure a green environment.
