ZIMBABWEAN leg spinner Brandon Mavuta has re-signed with English side, Thongsbridge Cricket Club for their 2023 season.

Mavuta first played for the English side in 2016 after the Under- 19 World Cup where he dominated, finishing the campaign as the highest wicket taker in the Drakes Huddersfield League.

The re-appointment comes after the leg spinner also finished as the leading wicket taker in the 2022/23 Pro50 Championship season which ended a couple of weeks ago. Playing for Rhinos, Mavuta finished the season with 28 wickets in nine matches and was crowned bowler and player of the tournament.

The English team confirmed via a Twitter post saying that: “Big News for 2023. That’s right, Brandon is back.”

In the Pro50 Championship, Mavuta with the ball recorded the best figures of 7/41 and took 10 more wickets than second placed Tanaka Chivanga (Alliance Health Eagles) who finished with 18 scalps and best figures of 6/31.

The 25-year-old bowler has turned out 18 times for the Chevrons across all three formats, making his first international appearance in 2018 against Australia in July. He has, to date, played two Tests, seven One Day Internationals (ODIs) and nine T20Is.

Based in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, Thongsbridge Cricket Club boasts six junior and three senior teams and women’s cricket as well.
