YOUNG Sables hooker Neil Mawere has warned his teammates to be wary of Madagascar ahead of the teams’ World Junior Trophy Pool B final at Prince Edward this Saturday.
Zimbabwe beat Cote d’Ivoire 26-10 in the semi-final in a match in which they only raised their game in the second stanza.
They had gone to the break trailing 6-10.
And, with Madagascar posting a commanding 65-0 over Morocco in the other semi-final, the South Africa-based Mawere knows the task that lies ahead is a tough one.
Zimbabwe need to beat the Malagasy to be elevated into the elite Pool A where they will have a chance of fighting for a World Junior Trophy berth next year.
“I think we struggled for shape in the first half. We were not complimenting each other. We played second fiddle to our opponents as were not very good in both tackling and interception play,” he said.
“But, we eventually got our rhythm in the second half but that’s not what we should be doing as a team.
“We have to start on fire and maintain that up to the end. We can play better than what we did against Ivory Coast.
“What we now need to do is play with more cohesion in the final as we chase our dream of getting promoted into Poll A.”
