Mbira group Mawungira eNharira are set to tour Sweden this October. The tour is yet another platform for the group to sell their music to the world. The group leader, Nyamasvisva MaAfrica, told The Herald Entertainment that they were looking forward to a great tour. “This is yet another platform for us to show what we have to offer for the people across the divide,” he said.

At the show the group proved to be in a class of their own as far as mbira is concerned. Despite having another event, “Kumabhebhi”, held at the same venue on the same night the mbira group held their own with their crowd dancing all the night. The highlight of the show came when the mbira outfit started chanting different totems much to the amusement of the audience. It was a great show that saw smartly dressed fans get to their feet and dance the night away.

Mawungira eNharira displayed great skill in playing instruments, singing and dancing. Formed by Nyamasvisva MaAfrica in 2003, the group has over the years mesmerised fans with a celebration of rich traditional music with the mbira instrument taking centre stage.

To date, they have more than six albums to their credit and they have headlined some of the most prestigious traditional music festivals, like the Zimbabwe Music Festival Bira (Zimfebi)and Mbira month. They perform reguarly at Harare’s Book Café where they command a massive following. Some of their albums includes “Mawungira”, “Chinamanenji”, “Ndodyiwa Nemakava”, “Nhoroondo” and “Hurongwa” and “Vhunza Mutupo”. They have performed across the country and even outside Zimbabwe where the response of their music is over whelming.

Matendere Ekumabvazuva, an outfit from Chitungwiza opened the show on a high note. Clad in traditional regalia, the group dished out some of their best songs until 10pm. Although they kept the tempo high, the grand entrance by Mawungira eNharira made them look like amateurs in the trade.
