“This is a most welcome development,” he said.
Dr Kanyekanye is the past immediate president of CZI. He is also a board member of NSSA and Star Africa Group.
“This is precisely what we have been saying to Minister Chombo. It makes sense for the Minister to exercise his prerogative in the manner he has done,” he said.

Mr Masunda expects the Minister to review the appointment of the other councillors he fingered as non performers. He said council still requires competent special interest councillors from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers, Institute of Architects, chartered accountants and secretaries as well as medical doctors. He said while it was not the role of mayors to refuse to work with the Minister’s appointees — it was in the best interest of council for the minister to appoint competent individuals.
Dr Kanyekanye replaced Clr Charles Nyachowe who resigned recently to pursue other interests.
He joins 10 other special interest councillors.
Yesterday Dr Kanyekanye said he was up to the task and promised to assist the city in crafting business policies that are sensitive to the national business environment.
He said he would also help in improving the quality of business decisions.
