BULAWAYO rolled out the festive red carpet yesterday as the Mayor officially launched the 2025 Christmas Cheer Fund, a lifeline aimed at pumping support into struggling orphanages and old people’s homes across the city.

The launch attracted a packed house of business leaders, government officials and big hearted well wishers who opened their wallets for the cause. Spirits were high as pledges poured in.

“We have a huge task ahead of us but we are confident that with the support of the community we can make a difference,” said the Mayor. “We will start distributing food and resources on December 19 and we are grateful to businesses who came and supported us.”
Among the standout donors was Dr Varashi Kosema of Vital Dent dental surgery who pledged 30 bags of mealie meal and promised even more help.

“We want to do more outreach programmes, not just donating food but also providing oral health education and examinations,” she said.
By sundown the Christmas Cheer Fund had raked in US$10 000, setting the stage for a brighter festive season for the city’s most vulnerable.
Donations are still open and the Mayor is urging the public to chip in and spread some much needed holiday warmth.
