THE Bulawayo Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund yesterday distributed donations worth over $37 000 to different charity organisations and individuals registered under the Social Welfare.
Speaking during the handover, the Mayor Councillor Solomon Mguni commended different corporate organisations and well-wishers who donated to the fund in cash and kind.
“The Bulawayo Mayor’s cheer fund is assisted on this mandate by various corporate organisations and individuals in fundraising for the less privileged members of our community. We appreciate all donors who have made this possible today. We would not be here if it was not for their selfless acts and kindness,” he said.
Clr Mguni said the city fathers were targeting $50 000 to cater for the less privileged community in Bulawayo.
“This year’s cheer fund has managed to raise $36 000 in both cash and kind and is still open to receive donations,” he said.
Clr Mguni said for the past two years, the fund was giving to charity organisations but this year it included individuals.
“I am pleased that today we have donated to 4 500 individuals registered under the Social Welfare,” he said.
Yesterday’s beneficiaries also included charity organisations, old people’s homes and orphanages.
