A VENDOR who pushed a City of Harare municipal cop out of a moving vehicle is now facing attempted murder charges.
Farai Yobe 51, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare regional magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa, who released him on US$200 bail.
He was ordered not to interfere with witnesses and to report twice a week at Mbare Police Station.
The court heard that on November 7, the complainant, who is an employee of the City of Harare, was on patrol with his workmates in Avondale, along West Road.
They allegedly saw Yobe and his accomplice, Raymond Katyaurere, selling Mazhanje from a Nissan truck.
They informed Yobe that he was under arrest and placed him in the custody of two officers — Nyasha Makarutse and Maudzo Themba — to escort him to the City of Harare Headquarters.
Makarutse got into the car and before Themba could get into the vehicle, Yobe allegedly drove the vehicle at high speed along West Road.
Katyaurere, who was sitting in the middle of the front passenger seat, pushed Makarutse out of the moving vehicle and they kept driving.
The other City of Harare officers followed in their vehicle but failed to catch up with the duo. Makarutse sustained bruises on the right hip, right hand and left shoulder.
He reported the matter to the police and was referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
