A man from Kuwadzana Extension in Harare was on Tuesday fined US$100 for unlawfully possessing 41 sachets of dagga and some bottles of cough syrup.
Lovemore Damison (46) was convicted on his own plea of guilty for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and unspecified drugs.
For possession of drugs, presiding magistrate Ms Ruth Moyo ordered him to pay a fine of US$100 or serve two months in jail.
For the second charge, he was given a wholly suspended one month jail term on condition he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
Prosecutor Ms Nomsa Kangara proved that on May 6 at around 9am, police officers received information that Damison was selling dangerous drugs at his place of residence.
They went to his house and found him in his bedroom. The police officers approached him, identified themselves and searched his bedroom and recovered a black plastic paper containing 10 twists of dagga and 41 sachets of dagga in his wardrobe, underneath folded clothes.
Further searches were conducted leading to the recovery of a blue small bag containing 3×100 ml containers of broncleer cough syrup with codeine and 4x100ml benylin cough syrup with codeine, which was on the floor under Damison’s bed.
The sachets of dagga were weighed at Southerton Post Office and weighed 150 grammes.
The dagga, broncleer and Benylin cough syrup were seized.
