A Mbare man has been jailed 15 years for raping his girlfriend’s six-year-old daughter.

The convict, a vendor residing at Block 8 Matererini Flats, was handed the effective jail term by Harare magistrate, Mr Feresi Chakanyuka on Tuesday after a full trial.

The man had pleaded not guilty but was convicted based on overwhelming evidence presented against him, including a conclusive medical report.

Prosecutor, Ms Cecilia Mashingaidze, proved that earlier this year, the man was left alone with the minor at home after the mother went to work.

The convict called the little girl into the bedroom and raped her.

The court also proved that the man threatened the victim against revealing the act to anyone.

The crime came to light when the minor visited her grandmother and disclosed her ordeal to her.

This prompted the family to immediately file a police report, leading to the man’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
