Musicians from Mabre ruled the night at the King of the Dancehall contest when they scooped most awards at the event at the City Sports Centre in Harare on Friday night.
There was overwhelming response for Mbare artistes the crowd, that selected winners of the contest.
The trio of Seh Calaz, Kinnah and Soul Jah Love scooped the first three prizes of R10 000, R5 000 and R2 500 respectively while their homegirl Bounty Lisa grabbed the best female dancehall singer crown.
Judgment was strictly done by the audience who listened to every artiste and made their choice by shouting in assent or disapproval accordingly.
Top Jamaican guest artiste Sheldon “Turbulence” Campbell gave a sterling performance to bless a night of fun with songs like “Notorious”, “Blood dem out” and “Real Warrior”.
The contest pitted dancehall artists from all ghettos around Harare as well as singers from as far as Kwekwe and Gweru.
Chitungwiza was represented by Guspy Warrior, Softaz, Kaplaz and Ricky Fire among others, while Kuwadzana’s Jay C, Maffcat and Chattman did their ghetto proud by giving sterling performances.
Other ghettos included Mabvuku, Highfield, Mufakose, Dzivarasekwa, Warren Park, Glen Norah and Budiriro with artists like Shinsoman, Dadza Dee, Spiderman, Faya King and AGL making sure that the huge crowd remained on their feet all night.
The show was presented by energetic MCs Smallz and Smiley who kept the proceedings flowing as the hundreds of artists had their chance to go onstage and show their talents.
Music was provided by a host of rotating DJ’s who included Legendary Sound, Mighty Ducks, Fire Lynx, Judgement Yard, Digital One, New Generation, Gary B and Silverstone among others.
Event organisers and promoters Red Rose entertainment expressed satisfaction with the way the show was held, saying that Turbulence is still in the country and was considering recording duets with some local artists who impressed him during the contest.
