Mbare trio denied bail on robbery charges

Harare Magistrates’ Courts yesterday charged with robbery.
Daniel Mutema (26), Brian Juma (21) and Tatenda Nyanhemwa (21) – all from Majubheki Lines in Mbare – were arraigned before regional magistrate Mr William Bhila, who denied them bail.

They will return to court on September 13 for trial.
Prosecutor Mr Zivanayi Makwanya says some time in December last year, the complainant Mr Fredrick Madhombiro was in his vehicle, a Toyota Ipsum, parked outside Nyamupaguma Nightclub in Karoi.
The trio approached him seeking to hire him to Rydings School in Karoi.

Madhombiro who was in the company of three ladies, Pamela Bvungumasanga, Mauline Jamu and Collina Kaveya agreed upon realising that Juma was known by one of the ladies, it is alleged.
Madhombiro allegedly drove the three to Rydings in the company of the ladies.
On approaching the main gate at Rydings School, Madhombiro was ordered to stop before reaching the boom gate, the court heard.

One of the three suspects allegedly indicated that the security officers at the boom gate were too inquisitive for nothing.
It is further alleged that Madhombiro complied and suddenly one of the three men went to the driver’s side and grabbed Madhombiro by the neck.
He started to assault him with fists while the other two accomplices disembarked and pulled Madhombiro off the driver’s seat and threatened to shoot him if he resisted, it is alleged.

One of the three men allegedly jumped into the driver’s seat and ordered the three ladies to disembark and “get lost in the darkness”.
The three then tied Madhombiro’s hands with a rope and hauled him at the back seat before speeding off towards Harare, it is alleged.
It is alleged that on their way the suspects searched Madhombiro and stole US$1 520 and two cell phones, before dumping him in Alaska.

Madhombiro managed to escape and walked to Chinhoyi while the three drove off towards Alaska Mine, the court heard.
Madhombiro later reported the robbery at Chinhoyi police station.
Following a tip off from members of the public, police detectives managed to arrest Tafadzwa Chidzambwa now late, who led to the arrest of his accomplices.
The Toyota Ipsum was later recovered.
