The heavens seem to be smiling on rising afro-fusion artiste Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora and his band the Mhodzi Tribe as they travel to South Africa for yet another regional show.
The concert scheduled for Macanudo Cigar Lounge, in Sandton Johannesburg on Friday comes a few days after a highly successful Easter tour which saw the musician performing in Ruwa, Mutare, Nyanga, Norton and Bulawayo.
The musician who has been high-flying with various local and international shows is among the top booked acts this holiday season.
Mbeu said he is ecstatic to be performing in South Africa barely a month after his last show
“I’m happy with all the bookings we had this holiday season. I’m also excited to be going back to South Africa for a performance.
“My last two performances were with my late hero, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi’s band the Black Spirits but this time I return with my band. To me this is a sign of growth and development as promoters continue putting their trust in me,” said Mbeu.
On his last two encounters, Mbeu performed first at Tuku’s South African memorial held at Joburg Theatre.
His brilliance on stage earned him another show at Cape Town Jazz Festival, this time filling in for his late mentor.
Mbeu is a fast-rising afro-fusion musician who started his career being mentored by the late Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton.
Since the passing on of Tuku, he has been among the strong contenders to keep the musician’s legacy alive, performing at different venues with the Black Spirits.
Mbeu will share the stage with local raunchy dancer Beverly Sibanda.
