AFRO-FUSION crooner, Ashton “Mbeu” Nyahora, is over the moon after sharing the stage with Yvonne Chaka Chaka at this year’s Oliver Mtukudzi Tribute Concert held at Sandton International Convention in Johannesburg last weekend.

The Pakare Paye Arts Centre’s brightest product said he would be returning home in high spirits after honouring his mentor.

Dubbed “The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival”, Mbeu performed alongside Maduvha Madima, Samantha Mtukudzi and Fiona in honour of Tuku.

Top South African pop duo, Mafikizolo, former Black Spirits member Clive “Mono” Mukundu, Thandisa Mazwai and Ihhashi Elimhlophe added variety to the show.

But it should be mentioned that Mbeu and Chaka Chaka’s acts left many in awe. The pair took fans down memory lane as they performed all-time classics like “Neria”, “Murume Mukuru” and “Kana Wochema” by Chaka Chaka.

In an interview, Mbeu could not hide his elation after their powerful slot alongside Chaka Chaka

“It was an honour working with her and all the other artists who were part of the whole festival, the likes of Madhuvha and of course the Oliver Mtukudzi Tribute band

“I was very excited because by performing along those legends, I am coming back home richer musically.

“It was also my first time sharing the stage with Yvonne Chaka Chaka but I had previously been introduced by the late Dr Tuku,” he said.

Mbeu, who is expected back home on Friday, said the event has opened new doors for him.

“I was introduced to the South African music market by Dr Tuku and new doors continue to open.

“The event was a success and I am willing to put into practice what I have been learning over the years,” he said.

Mbeu is one of the youthful artists who were groomed by the late Tuku alongside Munya Mataruse, Donald Kanyuchi, Watson Chidzomba Junior and Sarungano among others.
