Zimuto Congregation 0-1 Mbizo Congregation
MBIZO Congregation won the Reformed Church in Zimbabwe 2014 $15,000 Nyaningwe Soccer Tournament at Mucheke Stadium on Sunday.
The Kwekwe-based side which did not concede a goal throughout the tournament cruised into the finals by silencing the high scoring Masvingo Congregation 3-0 in the semi finals. For winning the tournament they walked away $3,000 richer and were presented with a floating trophy, gold medals and soccer kit.
Zimuto got $1,500 for being the first runners up. They were also presented with a soccer kit and silver medals.
Led by Leeroy Madzivire who scored goals, Mbizo was the toast of the two- day tournament as they did not concede a goal throughout.
Zimuto started the match the more determined side making raids in the Mbizo rearguard but their defence went to sleep in the early stages of the game and they were punished as Joe Mashayamombe nodded home a Madzivire pass.
After the breather, Zimuto returned a changed side as they searched for a goal. Their engine room which looked jittery and slow to the ball in the first half was now mobile. The team looked more organised and caused anxious moments that had it not been for the brilliance of Mbizo goalkeeper Never Genesis, the defending champions could have scored a number of goals.
Genesis walked away with the goalkeeper of the tournament award worth $100 while Madzivire walked away with a total of $200 for being the best player of the tournament and top goal scorer.
The tournament which started on Saturday had 20 teams from different RCZ congregations across Zimbabwe battling for supremacy in the four-year-old Nyaningwe Supermarket Varume Bhora football tournament.
The tournament co-ordinator David Masomere said the yearly extravaganza lived up to its top billing.
