MBIZVO Christian Group of Schools has spread its wings to Zhombe in Kwekwe District, Midlands Province, where it has opened a new boarding facility.
Located along the Gokwe-Kwekwe Road, the new boarding facility opened its doors at the beginning of this year for the first term enrolment although construction works are still going on.
The group already has other facilities in Kwekwe urban where it operates a primary and secondary school and another primary school in Kadoma, which also opened its doors beginning of this year.
Group director, Mr Sheddy Mbizvo, said the objective to invest in the education sector is driven by the vision to complement Government’s efforts of creating conducive learning environments for children, providing quality education, as well as contributing towards economic development.
“This is our way of contributing towards economic development through affording every child a safe and conducive learning environment, as well as providing quality education,” he said.
“We started off with only a primary school in Kwekwe but we have since expanded to where we are today through the support we get from our local councils and Government departments,” said Mr Mbizvo.
The Zhombe boarding facility has not only reduced the distance travelled by learners to Rujeko Somalala High School and Rio Tinto High, which are the nearest available secondary schools, but also offers a safe facility for students around the country.
To date, a few classroom blocks and other key infrastructure have been completed with more expected to be constructed in due course.
“As a new school our enrolment is still low but as we continue to construct more infrastructure, we expected our numbers to grow.
“But our aim is to ensure that we provide quality education through low teacher to student ratio. The school is open for both the local community day scholars and boarders from across the country so we expect our number to drastically increase next term given that we continue with our construction,” said Mr Mbizvo.
Having started with only a few primary school learners at their Mbizo School in 2016, the group has since grown to an enrolment of about 400 students across all the four schools.
The schools have also created employment after roping in more than 50 full time employees among them qualified teachers.
“We have created jobs for more than 50 people including teachers and we have other contract workers who always come in.
“Besides striving to provide education, we also create employment in line with the Second Republic’s vision of us becoming an upper middle-income economy by 2030. We can achieve this by providing quality education and also employment creation,” he said.
Kwekwe District schools inspector Mr Herbert Maziriri is on record saying there was a shortage of schools, mostly secondary schools in the district and the new boarding facility is expected to fill the gap.
