BULAWAYO socialite Mbo Mahocs was sold for $100 as part of a Celebrity Charity auction held on Saturday night at the Hope Centre. The black tie auction managed to raise $532 for homeless children at the Home Of Peace in Bulawayo. The event was organised by a local charity organisation – Twimbos Giving Hope (TGH).

The auction also saw ZBC presenter, Zwa Ndlovu sold for $100 and hip hop artiste Khayelihle Moyo going for the same price.

Zikhuphani hit-maker Cal_Vin, who was going under the hammer, had his fiancé Pearl making sure she was going home with her man as she bid $40 for him.

Other celebrities such as Tafadzwa Tarukwana were sold for $21, fashion designers Earnest Mackina and Nkululeko Ncube were auctioned for $68 and $20 respectively. Models Pardon Dube and Lebo Mmakola (Miss Earth Fire Zimbabwe) sold for $20 and $21 respectively.

Bathabile Dlamini (Nama Award Winner) and model was bagged for $50 to close the night which according to TGH chairperson, Khayelihle Moyo was a success.

“We’re very happy with the proceedings here today and we managed to raise a generous sum of money that’ll go a long way in helping the children and elders at the Home of Peace.

“We were expecting a much bigger crowd but as first timers we’re pleased with the turn out and I look forward to seeing the initiative gain popularity with time,” she said.

Moyo also said she is grateful to the people of Bulawayo for taking their time and coming to support them.

“I’m very humbled by the fact that people took some time to come and join us in aiding those members of society who are less fortunate. This shows that we need more initiatives like these as they create awareness in the public and encourage people to be socially responsible,” she said.

One of the bidders at the auction, Grace Gwini said she was pleased to have been a part of the auction and she encouraged the people of Bulawayo to be more involved in charity work.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this charity initiative that’s the brainchild of Twimbos Giving Hope. I think these guys have taken their time as young people to show their peers that you don’t have to be the richest man on earth to give something to someone in need. With more people doing such work, society will be able to grow into a conducive environment which accommodates everyone regardless of their challenges,” said Gwini.

The winners of the bids were given contracts that allow them to take their claims on a date in due course with security being provided for both parties.

Twimbos Giving Hope is a voluntary club that has brought Zimbabwean Twitter users from across the globe to help the needy in Zimbabwe. Their first project was to collect food items, clothing, books, stationery, school uniforms as well as raise funds to donate to their chosen charity Tichakunda in Hatcliffe, Harare in December last year.

Moyo also said those who wanted to help their cause could EcoCash them through Billing Code 82949 or account number – 0782694077.
