AFTER winning the Men’s Physique title at last Saturday’s Mr Western championship that was held at Sizinda Hall in Sizinda, Bulawayo, Lucky Mbundire is eyeing more success in the sport with his eyes on the Novice Zimbabwe.
Mbundire was competing professionally for the first time after taking up bodybuilding and emerged victorious, followed by Rashid Shoko in a competition that attracted huge numbers of participants. The victory was not an easy one for Mbundire as he faced stiff competition from his counterparts.
“I was a bit nervous as it was my first time going on stage in front of people and it was not as easy as I thought it would be. However, it feels good to have managed to win the competition,” said Mbundire.
The 26-year-old Mbundire, who hopes to attend one of the biggest events on the bodybuilding calendar, the Arnold Classic Africa said its back to the gym for him as he looks to condition his body to a certain level and make sure he keeps in good shape to impress the judges in his next undertaking. He is now preparing for Novice Zimbabwe that is taking place at the Zimbabwe College of Music in Harare on 1 April.
Admire Gomera, who assisted with Mr Western said he was impressed with the attendance compared to other previous events which is a good sign for the development of the sport in the city as they prepare for Mr and Ms ZITF as well as the Bulawayo Classic.
Gomera, who is the sponsor of Bulawayo Classic, through his Trek Filling Station franchise added that he hopes to see more Bulawayo athletes taking part and winning in competitions in the country. The actual dates, venue and prize money for Bulawayo Classic are yet to be advised. — Follow on Twitter @brandon_malvin
