Masvingo Provincial Governor Titus Maluleke lauded Ambuya Chabvepi for her outstanding role especially during the liberation struggle.
He said she sacrificed her life and limb by continuously assisting freedom fighters with food and clothing.
Born on February 7, 1928 in Marozva, Bikita, Ambuya Chabvepi attended schools in the area before enrolling for a teacher training course at Morgenster Mission.
In 1977 she was arrested and imprisoned in Shurugwi for collaborating with freedom fighters.
She was released from prison just after ceasefire in 1979 and went on to be a key member of the Zanu-PF Women’s League working with the late First Lady and national heroine Cde Sally Mugabe.
Ambuya Chabvepi is survived by a son Stanley Chabvepi.
