McKenzie Ncube new Midlands provincial chair, as Chivamba bounces back

THE ruling Zanu-PF Midlands Province has elevated its vice-chairperson, Engineer Daniel McKenzie Ncube to be the substantive provincial chairperson while his predecessor Cde Kizito Chivamba bounced back into the provincial executive as the deputy chairman.

Midlands provincial party executive co-opted the two yesterday during a Provincial Executive Committee meeting in Gweru after provincial secretary for security, Cde Owen Ncube and Women’s League provincial chairperson Cde Elena Shirichena moved motions to co-opt Eng Ncube and Cde Chivamba.

Zanu-PF Midlands secretary for information Cde Cornelius Mpereri announced the development on the sidelines of the provincial coordinating committee meeting which succeeded the PEC meeting.

“We had a provincial executive meeting in the morning where we deliberated on a number of issues. We deliberated on the co-option in our provincial executive considering that we had an acting chairperson since last year and we decided to appoint a substantive chairperson. A motion was moved by Gokwe-Kana Member of Parliament Cde Owen Ncube nominating Eng Ncube who was the vice-chairperson to be the substantive chairperson and it was seconded and unanimously accepted. Cde Shirichena then nominated Cde Chivamba our former chairperson to deputise Eng Ncube and again that motion was seconded and unanimously adopted,” he said.

Zanu- PF national Secretary for Education Dr Joram Gumbo who was the acting chairperson of the province expressed confidence in the new leadership and urged party members to be united, respectful and disciplined.

“I called for this meeting and advised the provincial executive that since the Politburo had concluded the issue of former chairperson Cde Chivamba, who was on suspension, I have accomplished my mission to the province and it was time for them to co-opt and select a substantive chairperson. This is according to the constitution of the party which allows an organ to co-opt members whenever there are vacancies within that organ. I am confident that the new leadership will carry on from where I left in terms of strengthening the party structures as we prepare for the 2018 elections. I also emphasised the importance of unity, discipline and respect for each other among party members,” he said.

Cde Chivamba was suspended last year together with two other provincial chairpersons Cde Joel Biggie Matiza (Mashonaland East) and Cde Ezra Chadzamira (Masvingo). Mr Chadzamira was recently reappointed Masvingo chairman.

The three were suspended on allegations of inciting insolence and failing to rein in unruly and rogue elements in their respective provinces. Cde Amasa Nenjana was appointed Masvingo acting chairperson, taking over from Chadzamira, Dr Jorum Gumbo replaced Cde Chivamba on an interim basis while Cde Bernard Makokove is the acting chairperson for Mashonaland East.

However, the three former chairpersons, Cdes Chivamba (Midlands), Ezra Chadzamira (Masvingo) and Biggie Matiza (Mashonaland East) were cleared last month for any wrong doing by the party. Cde Mpereri said the province was now ready for the 21st February Movement Celebrations and would send a contingent of 10 000 youths.

He said the province was going to contribute $25 000 for the celebrations that would be held in Kezi District, Matabeleland South.

“We also had several deliberations during the meeting mainly of which was the preparations for the 21st February Movement to be held in Matabeleland South. We were trying to work on the mobilisation of resources for the delegates that would be going there. We are going to send a contingent of about 10 000 youths. We have done that and I think we are ready for the celebrations,” he said.
