MDC Alliance primaries for Kwekwe Central that were held over the weekend produced some surprises after party heavyweights Mr Blessing Chebundo, who was legislator for the constituency between 2000 and 2013, and former Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Henry Madzorera, who was making a political comeback, were beaten by a youthful Ms Judith Tobaiwa.
Dr Madzorera polled just 42 votes while Mr Chebundo garnered just above 200 votes.
Ms Tobaiwa swept passed them with more than 600 votes in the primary, which was marred by voter apathy.
MDC Alliance Midlands provincial chairman, Mr Josiah Makombe confirmed the results and Ms Tobaiwa’s candidacy.
“We had an election over the weekend and Ms (Judith) Tobaiwa will represent the party after beating four other contestants who were vying for the position. We respect the outcome and all those who participated accepted the results,” said Mr Makombe.
