MDC-N doesn’t want elections any time soon

it was opposed to the holding of national elections next year and indicated that it was against the speedy completion of the constitution-making process.
Addressing a poorly attended rally in Mufakose, Harare, MDC deputy president Mr Edwin Mushoriwa said the MDC wanted those involved in constitution-making to take their time to ensure that all the views of the people were incorporated in the drafting of the supreme law.

His remarks follow President Mu-gabe’s announcement last week that the country will hold elections not later than March next year.
The Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is empowered by the Constitution of Zimbabwe to annou-nce election dates.
“Yesterday (Saturday), you heard (President) Mugabe saying we will hold elections before March 30 next year.
“We do not want the elections.

“Certain things should be done before elections are held. We want a new constitution, electoral reforms, media and security sector reforms,” Mr Mushoriwa said.
In his address on Friday to the Zanu-PF National Consultative As-sembly in Harare President Mugabe slammed Copac for delaying the drafting of a new constitution. He said it appeared those managing the constitution-making process were buying time to line their pockets with allowances.

The President said it was important that the country conducted national elections as the inclusive Government was surviving “on stolen time”.
