The Herald is reliably informed that the trio demanded to see the AG, but was told by his secretary that he was busy with other duties.
“Mr Tomana, through his secretary, advised them to go back and book for an appointment with the AG. They refused and declared that they were not going anywhere without seeing him,” a source said.
On being allowed in, they reportedly demanded the release of Madzore and other activists.
Mr Tomana is understood to have asked them in what capacity they were demanding the release of the activists, to which Mr Mutsekwa reportedly said: “Ngatitaurei setiri mubhawa kwa Watsomba.”
Watsomba is in Mutasa District in Manicaland, the provincial home to both Mr Tomana and Mr Mutsekwa.
The AG is said to have made it clear to them that he was going to exercise his constitutional duties professionally without any fear or favour.
Mr Tomana, The Herald is further informed, reportedly expressed displeasure at the manner the MDC-T officials and Cabinet ministers had acted in disrespect of his office.
The Constitution stipulates that the Office of the Attorney-General should carry out its duties without interference from any authority.
Mr Tomana is also said to have informed Mr Biti, Mr Mangoma and Mr Mutsekwa that he was disappointed and shocked by their lack of respect for human life in seeking the release of activists who stand accused of stoning a police officer on duty to death.
Mr Mutsekwa yesterday denied visiting the AG.
“How can we do that? Last week I was out of the country. I arrived last night from Kenya where we had a conference of Ministers of Housing. It was a long journey and I passed through Botswana. People are lying,” he said.
Minister Mutsekwa last night insisted that he was not aware of the said meeting after it was pointed out that the meeting was held on March 15.
“I never spoke to the AG and I never went to his office,” he insisted last night.
Mr Mangoma said: “I am not aware of that. Those are lies. I meet the AG in Cabinet every week. Why then would we go there and tell him how to do his work?
“It does not work that way (approaching the AG). Those allegations are completely false.”
MDC-T activists allegedly fatally assaulted Inspector Petros Mutedza at Glen View 3 Shopping Centre on May 28 last year.
High Court Judge Justice Chinembiri Bhunu on Thursday reserved ruling on a fresh bail application by activists.
Justice Bhunu reserved ruling to a later date after hearing arguments from the defence and State.
Trial was also postponed pending the outcome of the bail application.
The court will only deal with the issue of a trial date once the ruling on the bail application has been made.
