THE Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC’s national standing committee will decide the fate of its former secretary general Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga after two party organs resolved that she must be recalled from Parliament. The party’s women and youth assemblies have accused the Matabeleland South proportional representative National Assembly member of fanning divisions in the party and want her to be recalled from Parliament.
MDC national spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said on Thursday that the party’s national standing committee was still gathering evidence on allegations levelled against the lawmaker.
“I can confirm that the national leadership received requests and proposals from the national youth assembly and the women’s assembly. The MDC is a democratic party that consults widely before responding to such allegations. The party leadership will provide the required leadership and guidance to both wings of this great party. The national standing committee will respond to their concerns after deliberations,” said Chihwayi.
Misihairabwi-Mushonga declined to comment.
Chihwayi however said the national standing committee meeting will not be called entirely to deliberate on the MP’s case, but there would be other issues on the agenda.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s national women’s assembly accused Misihairabwi-Mushonga of being behind the mass exodus of senior party officials from the opposition party.
“We’re convinced beyond doubt that Misihairabwi-Mushonga is the chief architect of disturbances in the party, including choreographed media resignations in recent months,” said women assembly’s chairperson, Thandiwe Mlilo.
The youth wing also said it had received information that Misihairabwi-Mushonga was working tirelessly to ensure that people abandon the party and alleged that she was not known in Matabeleland South.
