Mthabisi Tshuma in Mawabeni
A local church organisation, Zimbabwe Mission has come to the rescue of villagers in Mawabeni under Chief Gwebu in Matabeleland South after donating mealie-meal to address food challenges faced by people in the area in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The organisation donated 10kg mealie-meal each to more than 250 villagers in Sipaba and Mlomoliwoto villages.
Zimbabwe Mission is a Christian organisation focusing on three main areas; evangelism, education and encouragement.
Speaking after the donation ceremony at Sipaba Village yesterday, Sipaba Church of Christ pastor who is also Zimbabwe Mission chief executive officer Mr Nkosilathi Mpofu said the assistance was part of measures to alleviate poverty and hunger among the villagers.
“We are faced with a time that is very devastating and there is a need for us as people to have faith and hope that the Lord’s grace falls upon us. We should follow the teachings from Matthew and not be tempted to forsake our religions because we are faced with a pandemic. I hope the mealie-meal will go a long way in ensuring that you as villagers have food on your tables,” said Mr Mpofu.
Zimbabwe Mission treasurer Mrs Katie Mpofu urged villagers to exercise personal hygiene so as to mitigate the spread of the deadly virus.
“This donation is meant to alleviate poverty that has befallen most homes. In that light, it is everyone’s mandate to ensure that we curb the spread of Covid-19 so as to go back to our normal lives in the future. As villagers I urge you to stay safe and may God bless you in this tough time,” said Mrs Mpofu.
Ward 5 Councillor Elijah Nkala expressed gratitude on behalf of the villagers for the timeously donation.
