THE media has been implored to amplify all the efforts being made by the Government and various organisations in the fight against drug and substance abuse, which is destroying lives of many, especially the youths across Zimbabwe.

The call was made by the Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Advocate Itayi Ndudzo during a media briefing ahead of the Mashonaland East provincial drug and substance abuse fundraising programme to be held tomorrow in Marondera.

“Mashonaland East should be a drug and substance-free province. So the media plays a critical role in the fight against drug abuse,” he said.

“The media must play its role in publicising these events. The media should publicise the whole process and ensure the community is alive to the devastating effects of drug and substance abuse.

“People should know the harm drug and substance abuse has caused in the province and across our nation.”

Adv Ndudzo said it is also incumbent on the media to educate people through the dissemination of accurate and correct information.

“The most effective tool to win this war is for the people to have accurate information and this is where the media comes in.”
