A Bulawayo medical practitioner and proprietor of Rugare/Hlani Kuhle Medical Aid, Ms Quin Sowa has created employment for 25 people in the city and aims to increase her staff as new investments are in the pipeline.
Rugare/Hlalani Kuhle Medical Aid was launched last year in November.
Having lived in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 25 years, Ms Sowa heeded the Second Republic’s call for the diaspora community to invest back home in a bid to ensure the country attains an upper-middle income economy by 2030.
With 15 years of experience as a psychiatrist, nurse, and psychologist, she said her goal was to ensure the healthcare needs of citizens are taken care of.
Ms Sowa told Business Chronicle that she is renovating a building with the main purpose of establishing a dialysis centre.
“At the moment we are working with 25 people and once the dialysis centre opens, we are hoping to employ another 10 to 15 more people.
“Once our hospital goes through, we will employ nurses, doctors, and different health professions,” said Ms Sowa.
“We are going to be creating more employment for local people. We are preparing to open a dialysis centre and we are going to start with six dialysis machines.
“So, we are opening a renal and emerging centre for Rugare. We are just waiting for the paperwork and the building to be sorted, which I think in the next month we should be opening our doors.”
She said the centre has got an ultrasound and MRS scan, and dialysis machines.
“We are also looking forward to opening a rehabilitation centre and also to cater for people with diabetes as well, we are looking for what is missing in the health sector,” she said.
The Second Republic has continued to stress the importance of the diaspora community’s contribution towards Zimbabwe’s current development agenda.
The country has a strong skilled and unskilled diaspora population largely in South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
In South Africa, there are an estimated one million Zimbabweans, the United States has an estimated 30 000 to 50 000, in the United Kingdom some 128 000, and about 5 000 in Ireland.
Meanwhile, Ms Sowa recently scooped the businesswoman of the year award at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) Matabeleland Annual Business Awards.
Commenting on her accolade, she said: “I feel proud and honoured that my efforts are being recognised. Surely, I am a testimony that diasporans must take heed to President Mnangagwa’s call to come and invest home.
