His admiration for the legendary sprinter Usain Bolt fuelled his dreams of becoming an Olympian one day.

Every time he watched Bolt race on television, he felt a surge of inspiration and determination.

Determined to follow in Bolt’s footsteps, Mukudzei Angel Muvhimi started training every day with the support of his coach.

At nine-years, he is already nicknamed, Junior Bolt due to his sprinting prowess.

Mukudzei is part of over 20 athletes from Harare who are in South Africa for the SACSSA National Athletics which were held from September 20 to 21 at D P De Villers Stadium in Sasolburg.

He is from Parachute Primary School in Harare and the little boy, is very good at racing in the 60-80m distance.

Mukudzei is the youngest boy in the team which travelled to South Africa.

Junior Bolt as he is affectionately known for his sprinting, Mukudzei said his dream is to be an Olympian.

“I want to represent Zimbabwe in Olympics as early as possible and Bolt is my role model. It feels great for me. I am feeling happy to be part of this event and I want to bring more medals under my name,” he said.

His father, Langton Muvhimi, said the boy has potential but needs financial support for him to pursue his dreams.

“He has great potential. He qualified at the national sports B Arena on timings.

“He performed, 60m (personal best 9.09 sec) and 80m (11.75 personal best).

“His coach Mavhuto has been helping him,” he said.

Mr Muvhimi believes, that if his son, gets sponsorship like other kids, he can go far.

“It is fortunate for other kids who have some sponsors and if my son gets some sponsorship, he can go far.

“Most of the time, I will be footing his expenses.

“Some kids have their sponsors and it becomes difficult when the events are held one after the other.”

He is appealing for sponsorship from any well-wishers to enable him to pursue his dreams.
