Had it not been for hard work and commitment, Afro-fusion group Black Sight – crowned Chibuku Road to Fame 2015 champions last week – would not be where they are today.

The group’s leader, Nomore Chaola, says it needed perseverance to go over the ground they covered on their music journey so far. They pocketed $5 000 at Chibuku Road to Fame and are set to take their career to another level.

The group, which is from Bindura, was formed by Chaola together with Maxwell Mukombedzi in 2004 and has Petros Sipuno, Desire Mudadi, Tafadzwa Mapaso, Tichaona Muchemwa, Ability Mazarire and Tinotenda J Zingapeta as the other members.

Since 2004 the group had been doing some live performances in and around Bindura and managed to catch the attention of the music legend Oliver Mtukudzi in 2012 when they visited his stable at Pakare Paye Arts.

Mtukudzi assisted in grooming the group and Chaola said they owe much of what they have to the music icon.

“We met Dr Oliver Mtukudzi at his Pakare Paye Arts in 2012 and that is when he was interested in our works so he decided to help us. From that day he was there for us helping us to perfect our acts and he was there to advice us,” said Nomore Chaola

He said live performance talent was something that he noticed in most of his group members since the day they started working together long back when they used to play tins and drums.

The group made first attempt at Chibuku Road to Fame last year though they failed to win the championship.

They continued performing live in the clubs such as Big Apple and Ambassador Hotel to perfect their art.

“We have been doing live performance in clubs and hotels as a way of boosting our confidence and from there we never stopped, I hope we will get far with what we are doing as we have managed to win this year,” said Chaola.

Winning this years’ Chibuku Road to Fame competition has given the group a stepping stone to further their goal in music as they are set to buy their own instruments and start recording.

“With the money that we have won we want to buy our own instruments and start recording, we want our music to heal the world and take us places. I pray that God helps us so that we can archive our goal,” he said.
