IN just one month and one week, Bulawayo comedian and digital content creator MlamboSkits has amassed more than 10 000 followers on Facebook, a remarkable achievement that has thrust him into the spotlight as one of the city’s fastest-rising online entertainers.
The rapid growth has been driven by his unique brand of relatable comedy, with one of his most talked-about skits hilariously depicting Zimbabweans returning home from South Africa on 30 June wearing All Star shoes and Brentwood trousers. The skit has become a favourite among social media users, with many praising it for perfectly capturing a familiar Zimbabwean experience.
With thousands now following his work across Facebook and TikTok, Mlambo is proving that authentic, locally inspired content can resonate with audiences and open doors to bigger opportunities.
Speaking to B-Metro, Mlambo said that while many people know him for his humorous skits, there is much more to him than what audiences see on social media.
“I am a comedian, content creator and digital marketer from Bulawayo. Beyond social media, I’m someone who loves making people laugh, telling relatable stories and helping local businesses grow through creative advertising. My goal is to entertain, educate and inspire people while representing Bulawayo on a bigger stage,” he said.
The comedian revealed that he ventured into content creation because of his love of making people laugh.
“I started creating content because I’ve always enjoyed making people laugh. I realised that social media could be a platform to showcase my talent while also creating opportunities for myself and promoting businesses. What began as a hobby has grown into something much bigger.”
Today, his content revolves around comedy skits, advertising campaigns and edutainment, genres he believes allow him to entertain while delivering meaningful messages.
“Comedy is something everyone can relate to, and I enjoy combining humour with meaningful messages. I also love helping businesses market their products creatively and entertainingly.”
Although his Facebook page has recently experienced explosive growth, Mlambo has also built a solid audience on TikTok. He boasts 3 929 followers and more than 21 100 likes on the platform under the handle @mlamboskits.
One of his TikTok videos has surpassed 401 000 views, while several of his Facebook productions have also generated impressive engagement.
“People connect with my content because it’s relatable, authentic and reflects the everyday experiences that Zimbabweans go through,” he said.
Asked about his favourite productions, Mlambo said he is most proud of content that not only entertains but also leaves viewers with a positive message.
“My favourite videos are the ones that make people laugh while also delivering a meaningful message. Those remind me why I started creating content and show me the positive impact comedy can have.”
One such production is his now-viral skit centred on Zimbabweans returning home from South Africa at the end of the month.
In the video, Mlambo humorously captures the excitement surrounding the monthly homecoming, joking that “the 30th is here” as he describes the returnees arriving in All Star shoes and Brentwood trousers. The light-hearted portrayal of a familiar social stereotype struck a chord with viewers, who flooded the comments section, praising the skit’s authenticity and relatable humour and helping it become one of his most shared productions.
Despite his growing popularity, the journey has not been without obstacles.
“Creating content isn’t always easy. Challenges such as expensive internet, limited production resources and building an audience in a smaller market can be difficult. However, these challenges have taught me to be creative, consistent and never give up.”
He said his family and friends were initially sceptical about content creation as a career, but their views changed as his online presence continued to grow.
“At first, some people didn’t understand content creation as a career. But as they saw my pages grow and the opportunities that came with them, they’ve become very supportive. Today, my family, friends and community encourage me and celebrate my progress.”
For Mlambo, social media has become much more than just a place to post videos.
“Social media has helped me build my personal brand, connect with thousands of people and work with businesses through advertising and promotions. It has opened doors to collaborations and opportunities I never imagined when I first started.”
His message to aspiring content creators is one of perseverance and self-belief.
“I want people to laugh, stay positive and believe in themselves. I also want young people to understand that with creativity, consistency and hard work, social media can become a powerful tool for creating opportunities and making a positive impact.”
Looking ahead, the fast-rising entertainer has ambitious plans for his brand.
“I see MlamboSkits becoming one of Zimbabwe’s leading entertainment brands. My vision is to grow beyond TikTok and Facebook into YouTube, television, live comedy shows and major brand partnerships across Africa, while continuing to create content that entertains, educates and inspires.”
