THE Venezuelan embassy in Namibia, which also covers Zimbabwe, is planning a mega march to be staged across the world in solidarity with Palestine, which has been under heavy military attack from Israel since October last year that has killed over 42 000 people.
Dr Magaly Henríquez, the Venezuelan Ambassador to Namibia and Zimbabwe, is co-ordinating the street activity.
Dates for the street activity in support of Palestine are not yet out, but the plan has already attracted global interest.
Said Ambassador Henríquez: “There is currently a worldwide action in favour of Palestine, against the genocidal actions of Israel and other power centres that seek to control the people, promoting the division of the international community.
“A worldwide day in favour of the Palestinian cause is being promoted from Venezuela, both in Namibia and Zimbabwe, just as from many other cities around the world; we join this day in favour of peace, justice, solidarity and above all, the self-determination of the peoples.
“What is happening in the Middle East cannot make us indolent and that is why we call for this great mobilisation in Venezuela and many other cities around the world. These worldwide demonstrations express absolute solidarity with Palestine.”
Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Dr Tamer Almassri confirmed the plan and said his country “highly appreciates the support and solidarity it always gets from President Nicholas Maduro and peoples of Venezuela in defending Palestine’s rights to life, independence and existence against the Israeli genocide in Gaza, West Bank and Lebanon”.
“The State of Palestine appreciates the solidarity campaigns that are being held in Namibia organised by the Venezuelan embassy in support of Palestine. Venezuela, just like Palestine, is a victim of the double standards of the international community,” he said.
