A WOMAN who gave three armed robbers a lift to Selbourne Park suburb will forever be grateful to Mother Nature for perfectly timing her menstrual cycle when the blood put off the attackers who wanted to rape her.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, survived a rape attack but was not so fortunate, as her assailants, allegedly robbed her of her US$30.
The incident which left the woman traumatised happened this week on Wednesday at around 7pm along Gwanda Road, a few metres after Ascot Shopping Centre.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
“I can confirm we are investigating a case of robbery that occurred along Gwanda Road after Ascot.
Members of the public are warned against giving lift to strangers as that might put their lives at risk,” he said.
A source close to the 32-year-old victim said on the day in question the woman was driving a Honda Fit and was stopped by two men who were in the company of a woman at the corner of 8th Avenue and George Silundika Street.
“Upon seeing the woman in the company of two men the victim gave them a lift and they told her that they wanted to be dropped off in Selbourne Park since she was going to Manningdale suburb,” said the source.
When they passed Ascot Shopping Centre one of the suspects started complaining of a running tummy before she asked the woman to stop.
“The woman pulled off the road and stopped. Soon after stopping things turned nasty when one of the robbers pointed a knife at her and demanded money.
“She had only US$30 and she gave them. They threatened to stab her while one of the robbers fondled her private parts,” said the source.
The source added, “One of the robbers ordered her to remove her underwear intending to rape her but the woman begged him not to do so saying she was on her menstrual cycle. She showed them the blood which indicated she was on her menstrual cycle. They were then put off by the blood and left her,” said the source.
The woman reported the incident at Khumalo Police Station.
