MODEL Sakhile Dube is living her dream and fulfilling her life goals.

She was crowned Miss Universe Zimbabwe at the Harare Hippodrome on Saturday night. She takes the crown from Brooke Bruk-Jackson.

“This year is about life goals and achievements. I am grateful for the opportunities that are offered to me in order to share my vision and my values. I am proud of the hard work put in every step I made to reach where I am today. All the love, support and advice received over the years have made me a better and stronger woman.”

The 27-year-old Bulawayo model emerged the winner in the second question-and-answer session to decide the winner from the three top finalists who included Lisa Sibanda and Ruvimbo Njomboro.

The contestants were trimmed from 18 to eight before they were further reduced to leave the three contestants, Pauline Marere, Amanda Peresu and Nozinhle Gumede were awarded Voices of Change for the charity work they carried out during the boot camp.

This year’s event was bigger and better with the winner walking away with a Mercedes Benz C200, 2020 model, courtesy of Style by Minnie. Despite some glitches in the final segment, Sakhile became the queen.

The competition was intense this year, especially during the final stages. Cheers erupted from all corners of the venue as Sakhile stood in disbelief, tears of joy streaming down her face. Sakhile’s victory marked a second chapter in the history of Miss Universe Zimbabwe — a chapter defined by inclusivity, empowerment and progress. She will represent Zimbabwe in Mexico for Miss Universe 2024.

Lisa Sibanda was named the First Princess, while Ruvimbo Njomboro earned the title of Second Princess. Sakhile, is a decorated model who holds the prestigious titles of 2020 Zimbabwe Miss Tourism winner, recipient of the Most Promising Award at the Zimbabwe Models Awards in 2018, as well as the title of Miss Inyathi in Bulawayo in 2015 and Miss Supranational Africa 2023. 

Her poise, grace and proven track record have firmly established her as a force to be reckoned with in the world of pageantry. She was also named Miss Earth Zimbabwe 2022. She promotes equal education opportunities for vulnerable Zimbabwean children. Miss Universe Chairperson, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, said:

“I want to welcome former First Lady, Amai Mugabe. It wasn’t easy to bring you here. The reason why you are here is because you are a fashion icon. I want to thank Tendai Hunda who made this day possible. Being beautiful is not easy, if you are beautiful, people think you don’t have brains, but I want to celebrate the girls here, you are not only beautiful but you are intelligent. There will always be one winner. The way they walk has improved. This year is much better.”
