HOTSHOT Zimbabwe international forward Tawanda Maswanise fired home a double either side of the break to earn his team Motherwell a 2-0 victory over Dundee United and propel them to within one point of third position in the Scottish Premiership yesterday evening.
Maswanhise opened the scoring account from the penalty spot in the 37th minute, dusting himself up to hit the target after being upended.
The spot kick was awarded after a lengthy VAR review.
He was back to haunt the visitors againt barely two minutes after the break when he deflected shot found the back of the net.
The Zimbabwean now leads the Golden Boot race with 16 league goals in 25 games, while his tally for the season has risen to 21.
Motherwell coach Jens Berthel Askou was effusive in his praise of Maswanhise after the match.
“It is fantastic to have a player [Maswanhise] who can score a penalty every time, then know he will get chances during the game.
“He was a little bit lucky, but you have to play the luck and force the luck by having a go.
“He deserved a goal or two. He does so well to break free of the tight marking and physical duels that go on around him, which can be a mental test,” said Askou.
