MADRID. — Lionel Messi has taken a foul-mouthed swipe at his critics who accuse him of not giving enough to his country’s cause when he plays international football. Messi believes he, and his Argentina team, deserve more credit for reaching the final of the World Cup in 2014 and Copa America this summer, with the Barcelona maestro slamming the criticism that has emerged.
The 28-year-old has also come under fire for not singing the national anthem before games.
Speaking to TyC Sports, he said of the issues: ‘I get annoyed by the people who attack you without thinking. “I won’t sing the national anthem on purpose. I don’t need to sing it to feel it. Every person feels it in their own way.” — AFP.
