Met Dept forecasts decrease in rainfall

Acting Deputy Director ( Operations) Mr Reynold Ndoro said some areas would continue to receive intermittent light rain and drizzle.
“These trends are indicative of the cessation of the main rainy season across the country, though some parts of the country especially over the southern districts would be receiving light rain and drizzle at times,” he said.

Mr Ndoro said the trends indicated the approach of the winter season.
“The current trends are already indicating a marked decrease in overnight temperatures during this transition period heralding the approach to the winter season,” he said.

He said some areas had already started experiencing changes in overnight temperature of below 10 degrees Celsius.
These areas included Gweru (five degrees Celsius), Chivhu (six degrees Celsius), Nyanga (four degrees Celsius), Plumtree (seven degrees Celsius), Matopos (four degrees Celsius) and Mukandi recording seven degrees Celsius.

He however urged people to keep themselves warm.
“The marked decrease in overnight temperatures may result in frost occurrences especially in frost susceptible areas.

“Members of the society are urged to prepare for ways to mitigate against this hazard such as site selection for planting, air mixing, hybrid selection and direct convective air heating,” he said.
