THE Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has predicted heavy downpours and thunderstorms in all parts of the country today and tomorrow.
The department’s senior forecaster Mr Tich Zinyemba yesterday warned of strong winds, associated with the downpours and thunderstorms.
“On Wednesday December 28, heavy downpours and thunderstorms are expected in all areas although these will be concentrated in parts of Matabeleland North province, north of Midlands, all Mashonaland provinces, Harare Metropolitan province as well as north of Manicaland province.
“Damaging winds associated with these storms will continue to pose a hazard as these may fell trees onto power lines, uproot trees onto roofs and buildings and cause impairment to visibility on roads,” said Mr Zinyemba.
He urged members of the public to be mindful of hazards especially when the storms are intense.
Mr Zinyemba said Thursday should continue to be wet in all areas with heavier rains in areas along the central watershed.
He advised members of the public to monitor the weather conditions.
The heavy downpours are expected to improve dam levels, which were at 37,7 percent last week, a time when they were expected to be above 60 percent.
This was despite the heavy rains received earlier.
Water supply in dams and reservoirs had gone beyond critical levels, forcing the Bulawayo City Council to introduce water shedding.
