Met Office warns of low temperatures

“Moderate to severe ground frost is anticipated in places like Chivhu, Nyanga, Marondera, Hwedza and Matopos where ground temperatures should fall to below -2 Degrees Celsius. This is mainly between 7 and 10 June and it is a result of clear skies,” she          said.

Ms Mashawi urged farmers to take precautions to safeguard their crops which include irrigating their crops overnight.
One of the coldest winters in recent years was recorded in 2009 when temperatures dropped to -12 degrees Celsius.

There were reports that livestock succumbed to the cold in the Midlands, Matabeleland South and Ma-shonaland East provinces.
Winter crops and trees were also damaged.

Low winter temperatures were also witnessed in South Africa during the same year where three people died due to the cold spell.
Winter has not been favourable to Zimbabweans for the last few years as it has been characterised by low temperatures.
The homeless, mainly street children, are vulnerable to cold weather at this time of the year.
