A TWO-MONTH-OLD baby from Mabutweni tragically died after his mother allegedly took crystal meth and later breastfed him before falling into a deep sleep.
Police confirmed they are investigating a case of sudden death following the passing of Sibusiso Dube, a male infant aged two months.
According to police, on 3 November 2025 at around 9PM, the 22-year-old mother took crystal methamphetamine (crystal meth) with a friend. She reportedly breastfed the child soon after, before the pair fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning at around 9AM, she woke up to find the baby unresponsive. A police report was made and the infant’s body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for post mortem.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, issued a stern warning.
“We warn drug abusers that drug use impairs coordination and judgement leading to risky behaviours, negligence, accidents or crime,” she said.
She further cautioned those dealing in and consuming drugs.
“We strongly warn those using and dealing in drugs that the long arm of the law will catch up with them,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
