BRITISH musical superstar, Sir Elton John has called the late pop icon Michael Jackson a “mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.” This was published in his is new autobiography, Me: Elton John, his first and only official autobiography.
He reveals the truth about his extraordinary life, from his roller-coaster lifestyle as shown in the film Rocketman, to becoming a living legend.
He said in the book: “I’d known Michael since he was 13 or 14,” John writes. “He was just the most adorable kid you could imagine. But at some point in the intervening years, he started sequestering himself away from the world and away from reality, the way Elvis Presley did.”
John also speculates about Jackson’s tortured relationship with prescription drugs, alluding to his addiction to painkillers: “God knows what was going on in his head, and God knows what prescription drugs he was being pumped full of, but every time I saw him in his later years I came away thinking that the poor guy had totally lost his marbles.
“I don’t mean that in the lighthearted way. He was genuinely mentally ill, a disturbing person to be around.”
Elton John who was born Christened Reginald Dwight, was a shy boy with Buddy Holly glasses who grew up in the London suburb of Pinner and dreamed of becoming a pop star.
By the age of twenty-three he was performing his first gig in America, facing an astonished audience in his bright yellow dungarees, a star-spangled T-shirt, and boots with wings. Elton John had arrived and the music world would never be the same again.
