ZANU PF in the Midlands Province has joined other provinces in backing calls for President Mnangagwa to remain in office beyond 2028, saying his continued leadership is key to achieving Vision 2030.
The resolution was adopted on Sunday at the party’s 4th Joint Midlands Provincial Coordinating Committee and Provincial Development Coordination meeting, held at the Zanu PF Winery Convention Centre in Gweru.
The gathering brought together provincial leaders, Cabinet ministers, MPs, heads of Government departments, parastatals and district development coordinators from across the province.
Resolution Number 1 will form part of Midlands’ submissions to the 2025 Zanu PF Annual National People’s Conference in Mutare next month. The resolution, first endorsed at last year’s party conference in Bulawayo, has since been reaffirmed by all 10 provinces.
Politburo member Cde Supa Mandiwanzira, who attended the Gweru meeting, said the resolution had now become a “national consensus”.
“This resolution used to face some opposition, but when we went to Bulawayo last year, it became a national consensus. You are the last province to reaffirm the resolution, which has already been endorsed by the other nine provinces,” he said.
Zanu PF Midlands Secretary for Local Governance and Devolution, Cornelius Mupereri, said the resolution reflected grassroots support.
“All the structures reaffirmed the 2024 conference Resolution Number 1, that President Mnangagwa’s rule be extended until 2030. This is because of the good works he has been doing since assuming office in 2017,” he said.
Zanu PF Midlands Secretary for Security, Cde Owen Ncube, reinforced the message.
“Resolution Number 1 is here to stay. This is a resolution from the people, by the people. We, the people, are saying our President should stay put and drive the economy for posterity,” he said.
