THE Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Midlands Province, Cde Owen Ncube recently commissioned Mtora Primary School in Gokwe in a demonstration of Government’s commitment to promoting education and development.
The school is the second one to be commissioned in Gokwe North in a space of a month after Budiriro Primary School. He also commissioned road equipment funded through the devolution programme and promised to continue engaging relevant Government departments to solve internet network connectivity challenges in the communities of Gokwe district.
“I recently commissioned Budiriro Primary School here in Gokwe North, I am very grateful to all of you for celebrating milestone achievements undertaken by the Second Republic under the servant leadership of President Mnangagwa,” he said.
Cde Ncube said the initiatives were part of the Government’s commitment to devolution and decentralisation, which were actualised by the Second Republic to promote inclusive development for local communities.
Cde Ncube also said that devolution was a key initiative that aims at promoting equity, equality, and inclusiveness in Zimbabwe in order to achieve the country’s vision of being an upper middle-class society by 2030.
“Following the coming in of President Mnangagwa’s administration in 2018, a new dawn of devolution and decentralisation was introduced in earnest.
“Accordingly, equality, equity, and inclusive development were initiated through the disbursement of devolution funds from Central Government to local authorities. I am glad that Gokwe North and indeed the Midlands Province is contributing towards the attainment of an upper middle-income society by the year 2030. The state-of-the-art infrastructure at this school as well as the updated competency-based curriculum being implemented by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education directly addresses the main tenets of our national vision,” he said.
The commissioning of devolution-funded road equipment is another crucial step towards improving infrastructure and connectivity in Gokwe, which includes a motorised grader, dump trailer, and backhoe loader.
Minister Ncube highlighted Government plans to address issues related to network connectivity and poor road networks in Gokwe North.
Recognising these challenges as hindrances to development and economic growth, he assured the community that he was already engaging with relevant Government agencies to find effective solutions.
“The Second Republic is a people-centred Government led by a listening President. As his foot soldiers, we follow in the same path as guided. I am rolling out plans to address issues of network connectivity and poor road network in Gokwe North. Engagements with the relevant Government agencies are already underway and I will not rest until we overcome these challenges,” he added.
