AN armed man who allegedly pounced on a house before robbing the occupants of property worth US$2 500 has been arrested and appeared in court.
Trust Nkomo (43), from Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo, appeared in court on Monday before Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Mr Isheunesu Mathoba facing an armed robbery charge.
He was asked not to plead and only spoke to confirm the charge he is facing.
Mr Mathoba advised Nkomo that it was his legal right to seek the services of a lawyer and to apply for bail at the Bulawayo High Court.
Nkomo was remanded in custody until 19 June.
Prosecuting, Ms Josiphine Gurazhira told the court that on 31 March 2026, at around 12 midnight the accused person and his two accomplices, who are still at large, went to Sunnyside suburb in Bulawayo.
They were armed with an axe, a taser gun, and a hammer, and forced open a closed window using an unknown object.
“They gained entry into the house and threatened the complainant with an axe, demanding cash and valuables. They ransacked the house and took a pistol, a cell phone, a bag with various children’s clothes, US$15 cash, an Ecco television, a 5 kg gas cylinder, and three coffee mugs before fleeing,” said Ms Gurazhira.
The complainant reported the incident to the police. Detectives from the Bulawayo Homicide Section launched investigations leading to the arrest of Nkomo. Detectives recovered a gun from the accused.
