TWO machete-wielding men have appeared in court for allegedly breaking into a house in Emganwini suburb, Bulawayo, and robbing a family of property worth US$540.
Ernest Ware (35) and Prince Dube (35) appeared before the Western Commonage Regional Magistrate, Mrs Sibongile Marondedze, facing robbery charges. They were remanded in custody until October 10, pending trial.
Prosecuting, Mr Milton Moyo told the court that the incident occurred shortly after midnight on February 6, when the accused, together with accomplices still at large, stormed the home of 63-year-old Ntokozo Paston Sibanda.
Armed with a machete, an axe and a spanner, the gang allegedly broke into the house while the complainant and his family were asleep.

“The accused attacked the occupants with the machete, axe and spanner, before ordering the family to lie on the floor. They ransacked the house and took an Itel mobile phone, a Samsung mobile phone, an Android tablet and US$40 in cash before fleeing,” said Mr Moyo.
Mr Sibanda and his wife later positively identified Ware and Dube as part of the gang. A police report was filed, leading to their arrest. None of the stolen property has been recovered.
