African Women’s Cup of Nations-bound, Mighty Warriors are set to clash with South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in a friendly match scheduled for Barbourfields on November 10.

The match is supposed to be a preparatory measure for the Mighty Warriors as they face the African Women’s Cup of Nations just a few weeks away set for Cameroon. Mighty warriors coach, Shadreck Mlauzi, said this is an opportunity for the team to be more active in preparation for the national games.

“We have to make the most out of this friendly game. The challenge is that most women associations have little or no interest in maintaining women’s fitness, so we are hoping the match with Banyana Banyana will give the team the focus they need for the national games.

“It is going to be a challenge since we lacked preparation due to shortage of resources and time has taken the best out of us,” said Mlauzi.

The delay in preparation for the team led to the team’s committee hosting a fundraising dinner at Rainbow Towers yesterday to see that the mighty warriors receive funds for camp, preparation and in the end competing in the African Women’s Cup of Nations tournament.

Zimbabwe Football Association spokesperson, Xolisani Gwesela said they are going to organise other matches prior to the Women’s cup as a way to prepare the mighty warriors.

“The dates are yet to be set but the friendly matches are to make up for the time the team has not been training,” said Gwesela.
