Mighty Warriors see light at end of tunnel

THE Mighty Warriors are upbeat that they will qualify for the African Women Championship in Namibia in October when they take on Zambia at Nkoloma tomorrow.
The Zimbabwe senior women’s soccer team arrived in Lusaka on Thursday and coach Rosemary Mugadza told the Zambian media that they want to go to the finals of the tournament.

“We are hoping for good results…we are here to qualify for the AWC as it is the ticket for the Canada 2015 World Cup. It is a very important tournament because every country wants to play and qualify,” Mugadza said.

The former Mighty Warriors captain has also been preaching the same message here, before departure, that they have worked on their weaknesses. However, it is a difficult task for Zimbabwe who failed to utilise their home advantage at Rufaro a fortnight ago to lose 0-1.

It would be the first time that the Mighty Warriors would be chasing a game against Zambia as Zimbabwe have always dominated their neighbours in competitive and friendly matches. The team still believes they have enough arsenal to pip the hosts and win by two clear goals, which will see them qualify for the finals in Namibia, although a 2-1 win will be enough to win them the game on away goals rule.

Chido Dzingirai is likely to be in goals for the visitors while veteran defender Melody Musasa and Nobuhle Majika are likely to be twin central defenders.

In the absence of injured leftback Ruvimbo Mutyavaviri, the coaches may thrust Nokuthula Ndlovu on that flank while Mavis Chirandu is likely to replace Ndlovu on the left side of the midfield.

Black Rhinos Talent Mandaza is likely to complete the back four with a position on the right.

Skipper Felistas Muzongondi, Majoury Nyaumwe and Emmaculate Msipa are likely to battle it out in the midfield of the park.

Upfront, Mugadza is likely to go for the partnership of Rudo Neshamba and Rutendo Makore.

Zambia have one of their legs in the final and their new coach Charles Bwale has declared that they will make history and progress at the expense of Zimbabwe.
