ZIMBABWE’S Mighty Warriors are not leaving anything to chance with the technical team likely to make changes to the team ahead of Sunday’s reverse fixture of the final qualifying round for the Africa Women Cup of Nations against Zambia.
The match is set for Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
Following their 1-0 victory on Wednesday at Rufaro, Zimbabwe need at least a draw in Zambia to qualify for the African tournament.
Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi yesterday said there are likely to be changes in the defence and upfront, with the team hoping to seal victory over Zambia.
“We are thinking of making changes given that it’s an away game. We need players who can give us balance in attack and defence. We need those players who can attack and defend. Other changes maybe positional changes.
“We were pondering on it last night (Wednesday). The midfield is reinforced, we have good players. But maybe it’s the front-line and the defence where there are likely to be changes.
“We need to strike right balance between our strike-force and defence, fully aware that it’s a difficult game,” noted Mlauzi. Mlauzi has already indicated that they are also using the qualifiers as part of their preparations for the Olympics.
“We need to get there and impose our game so that we are on top of the situation. We want to continue preparing for the Olympics.
“We are leaving for Zambia tomorrow evening (today). So tomorrow (today) in the morning we are going to work on our tactics, then have a session in Zambia on the eve of the game,” said Mlauzi.
After scoring, Zimbabwe’s only goal on Wednesday, Kudakwashe Basopo could not hide her joy and said she has been working hard to improve her game.
“I have been working on this and at my club last year I was the top goal scorer. So I told myself that when I get a chance in the national team I will do the same. Seven countries from the qualifiers will join hosts Cameroon from November 19 to December 3 this year for the final tournament.
