ZIMBABWE’S Ashley Miller Kamangirira broke the Felix Sanchez Classic meeting record as she won the women’s 400m hurdles in 54.19 seconds in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Saturday.
The 28-year-old national record holder finished 0.26 seconds ahead of Jamaica’s Saniqe Walker at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting.
Cote d’Ivoire’s Dinedye Denis completed the podium in 54.78 seconds, giving Africa two of the top three places.
Miller Kamangirira’s winning time was just 0.11 seconds outside the Zimbabwean record of 54.08 she set earlier this year.
The victory continued her strong 2026 season as she builds towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Miller Kamangirira, who is based in the United States, also won bronze in the 100m hurdles at the 2023 African Games. She comes from an athletics family. Her father, Felix Kamangirira, represented Zimbabwe in the 200m and 400m during the 1990s, while her American mother, Jan Miller, competed for the University of Idaho.
Miller Kamangirira earned a full scholarship to the University of Texas before transferring to Florida State University, where she graduated in Interdisciplinary Studies. She later worked as a strategy analyst for Deloitte. — Agencies/Zimpapers Sports Hub.
