TOP Zimbabwean professional golfer Scott Vincent closed the LIV Golf New York tournament with his best round of the week to finish tied for third at Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey, United States, on Sunday.
Vincent fired off a final round 66 to claim third place at Bedminster!! What a tournament for the Zimbabwean!
Vincent carded a bogey-free five-under-par 66 in the final round to finish on nine-under after 72 holes.
The Zimbabwe-born golfer had opened with rounds of 69, 68 and 72 before producing his lowest score of the tournament in the final round.
Vincent and England’s Lee Westwood tied for third at 9-under for US$1 250 000 each.
Vincent fired a bogey-free, five-under 66 in the final round of LIV Golf New York to finish tied with Westwood for third.
Impact Vincent shot under par in three of his four rounds at Trump National Bedminster and saved his best round for last.
That final push was enough for the Zimbabwe-born Vincent to secure his first top-3 finish of the LIV Golf season and third top-5.
The LIV Golf regular season concludes in two weeks in Indianapolis, which will be Vincent’s last appearance on the breakaway tour this year, seeing as he won’t be at the team tournament in Michigan as a Wild Card.
Chilean Joaquín Niemann won LIV Golf New York on Sunday at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, shooting 16-under 268 to collect US$4 000 000 from the tournament’s US$20 million individual purse.
Harold Varner III finished second at 13-under for US$2 250 000.
The result gives Vincent his first top-three finish of the LIV Golf season and his third top-five finish as he continues his strong return to form.
Vincent finished seven shots behind Chilean winner Niemann, who closed with a two-under 69 to finish on 16-under and claim his ninth LIV Golf individual title.
Niemann led throughout to win the LIV Golf New York event on Sunday, while Jon Rahm secured his third straight season title.
Niemann fired a two-under 69 to finish on 16 under after 72 holes at Trump National Bedminster in New Jersey.
That meant the Chilean won by three strokes from American Varner III and the 27-year-old met US President Donald Trump after extending his record for LIV wins to nine.
“I feel like the more they push me, the better golfer I’m going to become from every experience,” said Niemann.
England’s Westwood and Vincent of Zimbabwe were both seven off the pace in a share for third place.
Rahm finished tied for 41st after closing with a round of 76, but the Spaniard has clinched the season title.
The world number 13 has an unassailable 219-point lead over American Bryson DeChambeau heading into the final individual event of the season at Indianapolis in two weeks.
The 31-year-old won last year’s season title despite not winning a single event, but this year has two wins from 12 so far – in Hong Kong and Mexico – and has also had four runner-up finishes.
“It has been a great year,” Rahm said. “A little sour taste in my mouth because of how badly I played this week, but it has been something to be proud of.
“After last year, not getting a win and possibly having a question mark over the season-long race, to win twice and win it again definitely feels good.”
The LIV season concludes with the team championship in Michigan from 27-30 August.
